Ash Wednesday
03:57
|
|||
We warmed ourselves by the fire
Her black eyes mist and smoke
I made a joke
She bristled
And smiled just to break the tension
“Old Creature, where’s your head? Down the River?”
“And back again” she said
Her whiskers quiver
“There’s things in my mind
Myths and spirits;
Fingerprints.
In the charcoal dust
There’s an image
Suggested.
A wave folds into itself;
Sound compounds upon sound;
Words lose their power to tell.
I am beyond all your help”
She ran her finger down a burnt log
To mark her head in mourning
I mirrored her dramatic gesture
Said a silent prayer
Then smiled
To break the tension

I feel it’s getting away from me
My skin is inside out and outside in
I am estranged, an orphan
Projection or worse: distortion
I’m coming apart
I’m drifting away
I’m falling
I feel on the outside of inside things
Tonight I’m folded
Swallowed up in a sheet that’s seamless,
Unending
I lay down and feel the fabric on my fingertips
I am lost inside this
Whatever this is
Astral drifting
Passing over
Brush and bramble
I am screaming:
Killer find me

Eyes Are Mine
03:24
|
|||
Twilight mist
And shadow
Gone from home
From bed
And kettle
Out of phase
A remnant
Sibilance
And static
A hand (your hand)
In my hand (is my hand)
Eyes in mine (eyes are mine)
Eyes are mine
On sinai
Strange place
Suggestions
Of space and
Reflections
Kaleidoscopic
Projections
Of darkness
And subjectives
But you are (present)
Solid (Substance)
Sum of me (kill me)
Don’t kill me (I wouldn’t)
On Sinai
(Then fire,
Ash scatters)

Scorched Earth
03:39
|
|||
Once in my head there lived
A fluid unit, a fountain
Flowing from a wellspring
In the earth that made me
But the well has gone dry
On the scorched earth
Motherland’s in the clouds
Now, my body is in the clouds
Now, my thoughts are in the clouds
Now, everything I know everyone I know is in the clouds
The sun is rising blood red
In the grave of the riverbed
The parched soil starts to lift
As the engine turns and spits and kicks
This world’s not meant for you and me

Passing Through
02:33
|
|||
At the station
In the city
Intersecting
Under buildings
You are passing through
I am staying
I am waiting
For becoming
For that something
But you are passing through
Ignoring the sureness of my walls
The blaring calls
The stench that lingers
I’m not myself without you
You know it’s true
You are passing through
From the suburbs
To the center
From the south side
To the highrise
You are passing through
I am broken
I am chosen
I am sleeping
Have I even
Anything to lose?
(you are passing)
Through me in a hurry
Go to work and come home
Sad and angry
Another thinks he’s lucky
He always wakes up bright and early
This one’s scared of everything
He holds a gun
His eyes are darting
Suddenly it’s empty
Roaring, crashing echoing and
It’s all passing through me
You’re all passing through me

Colander
03:57
|
|||
Take me
My two hands and my two feet
I could stand on stage
They will adore me
Just as known as I am foreign
Vessel is the name I’ve chosen
Take me
My two hands and my two feet
I could build a place
That will outlast me
If I ever find my moment
Vessel is the name I’ve chosen
Take me
My two hands and my two feet
Now I understand that I am only
Here to be facade and space
Vessel is my given name
Pour it all into me
I can take everything
Garbage and table scraps
Tears and a muted laugh
I’m a bed too small for two
Lay on the floor and I’ll join you
Silly to be so inscrutable
If it could be true that true thinks to itself
And follows its mood, could it come to my help?
I think I could use a distraction
A colander is holding my pieces
You’re passing through me

TAGU
04:51
|
|||
I walk to the precipice
I want to fall
I am the obvious
I am everyone and no one
There’s a less-ness of limits, In essence
There are no walls
I am awash in purging liquid
I am displaced from you
I am the titular character
But you won’t find my name
In the print or the footnotes
Or anywhere
I am a soft material
An impressioned thing
I am the crater and the water
That fills its shape
Adrift in meteoric fire
I am not ashamed
I am a calculated error
I am everything
And like everything
I’ll cease to be
Hold the hand of whoever’s next to you
Coward
Take the place of what’s in front of you
Coward
Sing the songs that were written for you
Coward
Or give your place to whoever wants it you
Coward
Blood red, the altar and the fire
Burned out the starlight embers
We’re one, we’re not two for a moment
Drip drip, the sacrament is given
The forest floor is drinking
For once I don’t think at all
It is the way it could be
It is done and done

Two Roads
03:31
|
|||
Two roads
I’m coming down
The fog
Is thinning out
I breathe
I’m slipping through
A past
I never knew
Sinai
The back of you
Dark light
And you withdrew
I saw
The end of me
I know
It’s not all that could be
And you’re threading my body like a needle
I am feeding you like a child
I am passing through you gently
You are lifting me into the sky
Two roads
Two eyes
Two sides
Of one mind
One hand
Holds mine
I’m back
At the fireside
My face
Ashen
I break
The tension
You stare
I smile
In the glow
Of a dimming light
Strange world
Always hiding

Postlude to an Elegy
04:59
|
|||
You are split into many pieces
You have options, that’s alright
You are born, you fuel this world like gasoline
Then you’re gone
Between your entry and your exit
There’s a world that others built
They didn’t ask for your opinion or permission
You weren’t around to give it
But they built a path forward
And another that leads around
So you look at your many selves
And you know they can’t all come with you as you go
Some of you can self-select
Put some parts of you on the self
If you want that life of bounty and comfort
I hope that options there for you
We all act so simple
We’ve hold more than we could say
We throw away what won’t help us
If we have to, if we can
What do you think of a world like that?
